Death threat to Modi & Shah : Indian Army Jawan Mehboob from Kerala arrested

While social media can be used as a platform to convey good messages, cookery show, exhibit one’s talents take a serious U-turn on posting of anti-national status, hurting the religious sentiments of the people, more so when the posting is against anything that’s Anti-National. It is not only the person posting such statuses will be pulled up but what comments it attracts from posting such status and people who are agreeing to those comments shall be taken to task. This is what has led to the arrest of an Indian Soldier.

Malappuram Tirurangadi native Mehaboob, a soldier, was arrested by Military Police forces from Jammu and Kashmir. This happened in the aftermath of having backed up a Facebook comment which said to have encouraged to fire upon Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on a particular Facebook status. This incident took place last December, (2019) where the comment to have been made against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He didn’t stop with that he went further to say that whoever was in favour of the CAA, to get themselves removed from his friend’s list. Following the posting of the status, there was a man who commented encouraging Mehaboob to shoot down PM Modi and Amit Shah on sight. Mehaboob for his part responded by giving his consent to the comment.

What followed the comment and its consensual response by Mehaboob was that many complaints had been lodged with Union Home Ministry and Defence Ministry furtherance action followed with his arrest. After his arrest, they have seized seven mobile phones from his possession. Now, post-arrest during the investigation the following facts were discovered that Mehaboob often had made Anti-National remarks and comments using fake Facebook accounts of which he has had 11 fake accounts on Facebook alone. The police have found that he has had 6 WhatsApp accounts and two telegram accounts.

In the following investigation process after the arrest the police are collecting information about his Facebook friends as part of it and to find whether he has any links with any terror outfits. India has seen nationwide protests since mid-December 2019, following the passage of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that activists and opposition politicians have described as divisive, discriminatory and against the country’s secular constitution. The new law is being challenged in the Supreme Court. The sedition provision punishes anyone seen to “excite, or attempt to excite feelings of disaffection against the government”, even though this may be by their words alone. It is a non-bailable offence and has life imprisonment as the maximum punishment.
