The Government of TamilNadu and the Department of Health and welfare, TN, approached, Dr. Sudha Seshayyan, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M.G.R. Medical University to do study research on the given current situation on Corona. This is in connection to the extension of the lockdown period in furtherance to the current scenario in the fight against corona to save human lives.
Her findings in the research submitted to the Government’s Health Services were very point-blank, accurate, startling too. In the lockdown period, she indeed reported that the corona affected people would be by, May 5th 4058, by May 17th 8437. Had the lockdown phases hadn’t been implemented and followed the corona positive cases would have been by May 5th 15500 and by May 17th 86718. Not only this, the ratio of the spread of corona as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, is now in 1:1 ratio at the time of lockdown, if there is a relaxation in this situation, but it would also enhance the ratio to 1:4 which is apparently more dangerous than now.
She also reported, had there been no lockdown at all from the beginning, by July 2020 mid-month the affected cases with corona would have risen to 3.5 crores people. To handle the cases would have become very difficult to cope up with, for the hospitals and doctors where the numbers would have increased in huge arithmetic progression. Even if the extension of lockdown happens till June 30th, the spread of corona would be at its peak in September 2020 and by October 2020 the affected people would be 1.5 crores. These were the shocking startling revelations made by Dr. Sudha Seshayyan and her team.
Unless and until the extension is done till June 30th, we cannot contain and control corona or the situation can be handled by the doctors in treating the mass affected people. Even on the possibility that the extension happens till June 30th it is predicted that corona positive cases would number 1.3 lakhs people. On the other hand, if the relaxation happens step by step after May 17th which is the third phase of lockdown, where the public gathering is restricted, even then the affected cases by June 30th would be 6.2 lakhs people as per the final research findings.
As of this moment, there are 8002 confirmed corona cases reported and 53 deaths in Tamil Nadu, the 3 Ts have to be done on the continuous process which are TRACE, TEST, AND TREAT. This is not the time to speak about what should have been done, but what should we do to contain this menace with consistent efforts from the Government, public for their part, being co-operative in not venturing outside, maintain utmost personal hygiene in curbing this 90% asymptomatic spread. As we are not in a position to rest our laurels that we have completely eradicated corona.
