Migrant workers from Bihar, who were working in an Apparel park in Tirupur, are on their way back to Bihar in two private buses, 30 in each buses paying about Rs.6500/- each. These were the same people who staged a protest sometime back on Coimbatore-Salem highway. When this issue was brought to the notice of the officers concerned, they helped them to get the E-passes so that arrangements can be made for their travel. The buses were arranged through private bus operators who demanded 2lakhs for each bus. Owing to social distancing norms, only 30 people could be accommodated for their 2400 km trip.
This caught the attention of Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu, Sri. E. Palani Sami, who today said, that the rest of the workers will be sent back to their homes in a week’s time. So far 9000 migrant workers have been sent back to their homes by eight trains. Efforts are being taken to send the rest of them into their family folds. Till then he has appealed to the workers to stay in their respective relief camps.
This assurance has been sought out, to give some solace to all those migrant workers who are desperate to go back to their families. He also has promised them that coordinated efforts are being taken to send all those workers, who are willing to go back to their homes and done with the consent of the concerned states.
It is quite natural that at this time of crisis and in a state of panic that the migrant workers who are taken care of by the company they are employed with or through the Government supplying them the ration to the place of stay would suffice. Despite all the steps taken, the migrants would prefer to be with their families, which would bring them peace to their troubled minds.
